Safe and Efficient Taps and Toilets

Vogue Spas & Bathrooms is a leader in supplying safe and efficient taps and toilets.

Safe and efficient taps and toilets sold and installed in Australia need to be have a WaterMark certification as well as a WELS certification.

As a reseller of internationally recognised bathware brands here in Australia, we have an obligation to ensure that plumbing products for sale such as showers, tap equipment and flow controllers as well as toilets and urinal equipment are registered and labelled with their water efficiency label, known as the WELS certification.  The WELS certification ensures that all tapware and sanitary ware sold will assist with the conservation of water.

Some examples of the WELS certification labelling for a kitchen mixer is below:

An example of a watermark label is below.

In order to achieve Watermark Certification, the subject material or product must:

  • be tested by a recognised testing laboratory;
  • comply with an approved specification (either a relevant existing standard or an approved WaterMark Technical Specification);
  • be manufactured in accordance with an approved Quality Assurance Program; and
  • carry a warranty

The Quality Assurance Program for the WaterMark Certification Scheme has numerous guidelines for manufacturers to comply with.  One of the more obvious guidelines is the materials used in the production of tapware and sanitary ware.  These materials need to be fit for purpose and appropriately authorised for use in plumbing installations according to the Plumbing Code of Australia.  Material and product failures in plumbing systems can cause contamination of the water system and be a public health concern.

Tapware such as kitchen taps, basin taps, bath taps and shower sets manufactured across the globe are made from brass which usually contains levels of zinc deemed unsafe.  WaterMark Australia have made it a standard for products in water systems that are installed in Australia be made from DZR (de-zincification resistant) brass of the highest quality.  Due to this, manufacturers need to stop the production line for the rest of the world to cast DZR Brass amongst other requirements for Australia.  Tapware and showers produced in Europe, particularly Germany have the greatest compliance with WaterMark Australia’s requirements with minimal changes required under WaterMark Australia’s standards.

All of the products sold by Vogue Spas & Bathrooms carry WaterMark certification and also WELS certification, if necessary.  Safe and Efficient Taps and Toilets is now a requirement here in Australia.
